WSA - At this moment in time the WSA is very stagnent, our aim(as the new committee)in the near future is to make this Association/Committee/Sport more aware and direct our audience to a much larger market. The real future of the WSA and the sport in general is our younger riders and making the surfing arena more aware of not just the professionalism of our sport but the extreme performers that represent Waveski Surfing in general. For to many years has this been portrayed as the old man sport. Once upon a time there were an ubundance of juniors, which then became seniors and now we are the masters. We need to be more "Junior" aware so to speak. A work in pregress that needs to be put in place.
FINANCIALS - Our finacial situation is a mess, the new Treasurer, Jeff Beaumont, has been frantically working with the previous Secretary to finalise our finacial report dating back to 2009 and to complete an Audtit. At this time we are unable to post the financial report due to the mess, the previous committee were left in the same boat and are helping us to clean it up, so the reports will be posted as soon as we can. We thank them for the assistance.
WEBSITE - As an experience web developer I have taken the job over to produce a more active site, this site was good at the time but is 4-6 years out of date. In the near future (6 mths) we will be sporting a whole new site built with a WordPress model. I have chosen this type of technology due to its simplicity once it has been set up, this means that not just one person can work on it. You don't need to be savvy Web Guru to put up reports, handle blogs, maintain events and news update, a very simple tutorial and away you go. This was discussed and put forward at the AGM so in the future when new committees gets elected, the information highway will continue to flow.
SUPPORT - Over the past few years we have had links to various sites, information sites around the world etc, but also to manufacturers, who supposed pay but it's gone by the wayside. This will change. The idea of having to run a site, the costs, the WSA, insurance, all this amounts to members funds being drained, what then, the membership fee keeps increasing!!!. The advertisers on our site get a free run. A handful of people who actually sponsor evens aren't on here? This is going to change, we are going to run the WSA and the site like a business!!! This means that in the future not only can we attract mainstream supporters for events but help assistance for travel to World Events, go to training Camps, all this can be supplied by the WSA to the top ranked riders, and to our Junior contestants. A work in progress but utilizing a tool (the website) as part of our main business.
CONTEST SCENE - Voted in at the AGM was an idea to rebuild our contest scene, at the moment its who's great on the day! Well in 2012 it's who's best for the whole year! Implementing the point system creates interest from all areas, you now need to perform for more than just 1 contest to claim the title. And to top it off, if you don't surf the events and the titles you will have no ranking or position on the Australian team to travel to world Events. This may sound extreme but the concept and ideas from the new committee is for the many, not the few, as it has been in the past. So follow us, register, and stay up-to-date with the contest scene - read more
CLOSING - In closing I would like to thank the new committee that are donating their time, the previous committee for all their work over the past 12 mths and their continuing help now. This new idea, the new venture or path we are taking is not one that will happen overnight, this is the building of a business and will take time. A 1-5 yr business plan that will take more than just the new members elected at represent in the new committee. In the near future we will be appointing new positions on the committee to help us move forward, if you interested and have time to offer, more hands make lite work. The whole idea is a functional team working as one. That is the only way we can achieve our goals and move forward.
A special thanks to Mark Buckley, for taking the time to run a dual event in 2011 due to no events happening, I think this was a wake up call and we do appreciate it. Also Jackie Dillon, representative for the World Waveski Assoc. for her input at the AGM and helping us to move ahead with support for our ideas.
The people that have offered their time to the WSA also have commitments, wether it be work, family, or both, we do offer our extended time to help the WSA and the sport in Australia to move on, so please be patient for updates and register to get the latest as we move towards a better future.
