  2008 Portland Border Classic, Victoria

Once again the Portland area turned on some super fun conditions for the Portland Classic weekend on the 3rd and 4th of May. On the Friday, John Trebilco, Greg Dell and Travis Best took up the challenge and headed down to Bummers (aka no seat belt guy) on the Friday.

After a swell check on Saturday at Yellow Rock it was decided to jump in the car and head for Port Fairy around an hour drive east. Last year they managed to score solid 2 metre waves there so  expectations were high for more of the same conditions. After lugging the bare essentials out to the Lighthouse it was  decided to set up the video camera on land and as it was a little inconsistent. Trav took the water camera out leaving Bummer and Bilco to
get stuck into the metre sets which were clean and fun. They tried a rotation system on the cams which worked fairly well except  Bllco nearly floated out to sea and Bummer had his kids to look after. Jim Slattery turned up a little later and wasted no time in getting out there.

Saturday night we were joined by Peter Klein while Jim had to head  home. The swell dropped over night and Yellow rock had small clean  waves Sunday morning the high tide put an end to the surf and by the  afternoon a onshore blast had brought in a new swell.
Greg and Trav stayed for another surf on Monday after a favourable swell  forecast and were not disappointed, back to the lighthouse and clean  meter and a half barrels were unloading across the reef. The tide  quickly filled in but the waves remained fun however the lips seemed  to disappear.

All in all another fun weekend was had and our run of quality surf  had on this annual weekend has continued!

Lets hope to see more on the trek next year!!!!!!!
