Western Australian Waveski Association State Round 1
Bombing Range Lancelin
By Rob Borg

The forecast for state round 1 was 4mt swell with a light breeze - meeting spot was the bakery at Lancelin 7am.

With last minute withdrawls kim Gardner (sick all week), Mark Jackson (hurt his arm at work) and Jackie Dillion (gone walkabout) that left only 6 keen die hards.

With the bombing range being out of control the call was for a break called Twin Peaks which only breaks on large swells.

Heat 1 saw Leon Dalton,Richard Croome and Scott Wakefield battle the shore break then the long paddle out the back, with a messy swell and the odd elephant coming through. Wave selection and the right take off point were critical, Leon and Scott progressed to the final.

Heat 2 saw luke Hermon,Eric Tocock and Rob Borg go through the same conditions. With Luke taking off on what was the wave of the comp a screaming double head high left hander which he shredded all the way to the shore.

Luke continued his great form to win the open followed by Leon ,Scott and Eric.

Luke also won the seniors from Leon.

Scott took out the masters.

The veterans was a tight and close contest with Richard first followed by Rob and Eric.

The aerial of the day went to Leon in the shore break, only thing was he was not on his board. Luke tried hard to better it but got buried in the dredging sand.
