Hello, I found your website on the internet as I was prowling around looking for anything on our sport. Many of you will not remember me but some will.. good or bad memories either way it is good to find like minds again.
First let me offer my sincere condolences to Roger Buck on the loss of his daughter. Roger and I had a very successful and fruitful working relationship in the 80/90's when I was president of Queensland and a member of the Sunshine Coast club. Could you please pass on this message to him if you can.
I have since travelled the world in pursuit of my career in my other sporting passion but never once considered leaving my trusty goatie behind. Fortunately I have also been able to spend a lot of time in many exotic and out of the way places where I have sampled all types of waves and cultures. I am a lucky man.
In fact I am currently the proud owner of trusty steed number 37 which is showing as much wear and tear as I am these days. Neil D will probably have to come out of retirement to make me No.38 very soon I think. And a free plug for Neil.. this one has been the best ever.
In all my travels I encounter many who marvel at how we manage to ride these strange craft and here in Oman I am the only waveski rider in the country. Actually I am only one of the few active surfers here as well. So where I go I rarely get anyone out in the water and 2 others is a massive crowd. The fishermen who keep my wife and I out of trouble here and feed us free fish and lobsters laugh at the fat old white man sitting like a statue behind the break for hours waiting for that BIG one to come along... some of you will remember me doing this in the past. Surfing on my own is both scary and exciting but is something that I have been forced to do if I want to catch waves here. My motto will always be you never know if you never go and I will never die wondering either.
And actually I am in one of the last true adventure areas of the world and have a multitude of very rideable and at times fantastic choices of wave... especially my favourite medium to large size point break which equals Moffats, Alexandra Headland and Arrawarra Headland for all round surfability. And the water is about 24deg all year round too. But I am going to keep that a secret for now. You can check out this website if you wish to have an idea of what I mean. .. http://surfersofdubai.com/ and go to the Oman section. Oman is also one hell of a place for a holiday by the way especially if you like heat and dust.
Also it is good to see some old faces still involved in this sport... I mean old as I am there as well now and know how it feels. One hour in the water and one day to recover???
Anyway it is a good feeling to see this sport that I have been enjoying for almost 30 years now still doing well in OZ. Keep up the great work.
