
HISTORY
The World Waveski Surfing Titles is the pinnacle for amateur international competition in Waveski Surfing and one that each individual strives to win. The first world title event was held in South Africa in 1984 and won by Australian John Christensen. It was intended that the world titles be a biennial event and in 1988 a World Cup competition was introduced every alternate year until 1996. Between 1996 and 2007 the world titles has been held yearly expect for 2005 where there was a 2 year gap. Previous results from the event can be located here. The event has now returned to being a biennial event with the 2009 World Waveski Surfing Titles to be held at Emerald Beach in Coff Harbour, NSW with competition running from the 5-12 September 2009. At this event, man on man format will be introduced into the open division for the first time in the history of the event
COMPETITION FORMAT
All age divisions are as described in the WWSA Rule Book (2009 version) with double elimination. The open division format is as follows:
- Top 32 seeds as identified from seeding policy (i.e. 2007 WWSA results) with the option of including subsequent place getters (i.e. Seed 33 onwards) should any seeded rider decline to enter the event will be in the first round of the open.
- Losers from the first round will move into the repercharge round and surf against the final 16 from the qualifying rounds. Winners will wait to surf against the final 16 in a man on man format.
- For all other riders who wish to compete in the Open Division there will be qualifying rounds capped at 64 competitors (WWSA seeding policy will prevail). These heats will be 4 man heats.
- The first round will have a repercharge which effectively means that all competitors will have a second chance in the first round. These heats will be 4 man heats. · Winners of the repercharge round will rejoin the winners of the first round which becomes round 2. Winners only will advance, losers will be eliminated. These heats will be 4 man heats.
- The qualifying rounds will continue in 4 man heats until the final 16 is determined whereupon they will surf against the losers of the Top 32 in a man on man format.
- The winners from this round will surf against the winners from the Top 32 in a man on man format until the final which again will be man on man.

ENTRY
Competitor numbers for the open division will be limited to 100 entrants with 32 seeded riders and the final rounds of the open division will consist of a man on man format. Entry forms are available here and the closing date for all entries will be the 31st July 2009. No late entries will be accepted.
COMPETITOR INFORMATION
The competitors will be required to register and the registration desk will be open from Monday 31st August and close on Friday 4th of September at the Saltwater Restaurant Apartment – 104 Fiddaman Road; which is the main road leading into Emerald Beach competition site. There will be a sign there for all competitors. The booth will be open from 11.00 am – 1.00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 9.00 am to 12 noon on Friday 4th September 2009. All competitors will be required to confirm their details including date of birth, make final payments for their WWSA Affiliation Fee (exact money must be paid - $15US OR $24 AUD) and receive their competitor packs. For entrants arriving late, all entries will have to be received prior to 31st July 2009. No exceptions and no refunds.
The competitors briefing session will be held on Friday 4th of September 2009 with the venue and time yet to be confirmed. Following the briefing session will be the opening ceremony with the local mayor opening the competiton.
